Brexit: The precarious British gambit

British Prime Minister Theresa May has introduced her EU exit strategy.

What at first glance seems like a hard Brexit is, on closer analysis, a kind of genteel adieu – at least from a British point of view. The goal is to maintain largely duty-free access to the domestic EU market whilst shouldering as few obligations as possible. Conflicts of interest with the Continent are therefore preprogramed. The divorce proceedings will be acrimonious.
