Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume was not only one of the best French violin-makers of the 19th century, but also a central figure in violin-making during that period. In 1828 he set up his own business at Rue des Petits-Champs 46. There he made violins, violas, cellos and double bases, in each instance according to the standards of the Cremonese masters. He also produced excellent bows, which even today have not lost any of their quality.
