Help to protect yourself

 
In an era of increasing digital financial transactions, ensuring your security is of the utmost importance to us. While the shift from traditional payment methods to innovative technologies offers new possibilities, it also poses growing challenges in terms of protecting against fraud.

Even the most effective security solutions depend on the people who use them. Since your attention and behaviour are equally crucial, we aim to strengthen your sense of personal responsibility wherever possible. Below, you will find concise, practical tips on the most important areas:

Card security

  • Never store your PIN with your debit card.
  • Avoid PIN codes that are easy to guess.
  • Keep your PIN confidential and never share it with third parties.
  • Cover the keypad when entering your PIN.
  • Check payment terminals for irregularities. Do not withdraw cash if you suspect that a terminal has been tampered with.
  • Use a SecureCard or a wallet with RFID protection to prevent unauthorised data reading. You can obtain a SecureCard free of charge at our counters.
  • Activate the “Enable notifications” function in the DebiX+ app to receive a push notification for every transaction.
  • Activate or deactivate the “Online purchases”, “ATM”, and “Contactless payments” functions in the DebiX+ app as needed.
  • Block lost, stolen, or retained cards immediately – either via the DebiX+ app or by calling T +423 235 70 00.

Online card payments

  • Only make purchases from trustworthy online shops
  • Only make payments on secure websites (recognisable by the “https” at the start of the URL and/or the padlock symbol).
  • Keep your card details secret
  • Only store your card details where absolutely necessary. Payment services such as PayPal can offer additional security, as merchants do not receive your card details.
  • For additional security, deactivate the “Online payments“ function on the debiX+ app if you do not make any online payments.

Mobile banking security

  • Always carry out transactions in the client portal or in the app – never via email.
  • Always use the latest version of your banking app.
  • Protect your smart phone with biometric data (e.g. Face ID).
  • Avoid using public computers or Wi-Fi networks for banking transactions. These can easily be monitored or intercepted.
  • Do not open links from unexpected emails – log in directly to the client portal or the DebiX+ app to check messages. VP Bank will never contact you by email regarding security-related matters.

Stay safe on holiday

  • Your VP Bank Debit Mastercard is automatically limited to use within Europe as proactive protection against skimming (this does not apply to the VP Bank Debit Mastercard International). Remember to deactivate “GEO blocking” on your card before you travel outside Europe and reactivate it when you return.
  • Use mobile internet instead of public Wi-Fi.
  • Never let your credit card out of your sight – not even in restaurants.
  • Keep your card and ID separate.
  • Remove or hide financial apps when travelling to high-risk regions.

Online safety

  • Question every email you receive and never click on a link that promises to solve a problem. 
  • Never enter sensitive data via links in emails or messages.
  • Use strong, unique passwords.
  • Increase your protection with two-factor authentication.
  • Change important passwords such as email access every few months.
