Reading time: 3 min
For three days, Holzhäusern was the centre of the international women’s golfing world. At the seventh edition of the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open, 132 of the world’s best female golfers came together to treat spectators to top-class sport of the highest standard. The Ladies European Tour event, with prize money totalling 350,000 euros, was broadcast in over 80 countries and once again underlined its significance as Switzerland’s largest women’s golf tournament.

Partnership extended for a further three years

At the start of the tournament, VP Bank and Migros Golf AG announced the extension of their partnership for a further three years. VP Bank will therefore remain the title sponsor of Switzerland’s most important professional women’s golf tournament in the coming years, reaffirming its long-term commitment to promoting the sport and the Ladies European Tour in Switzerland. Urs Monstein, Group CEO of VP Bank: “Over recent years, the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open has established itself as a fixture in international women’s golf. We are therefore all the more delighted to continue this successful partnership and to actively support the further development of this prestigious tournament.”

Golf at the highest level

Eleanor Givens claimed this year’s tournament victory. The Englishwoman won her first Ladies European Tour (LET) event after 210 starts on the tour, securing the title with a score of 13 under par. The 37-year-old prevailed in a thrilling finale, finishing one stroke ahead of Alexandra Försterling (Germany), Anna Foster (Ireland) and Whitney Hillier (Australia). Overall, the field of competitors – featuring numerous top international players as well as promising young talents – performed to their usual high standard.

Commitment to promoting talent

As a long-standing title sponsor, VP Bank is committed to promoting talent in golf. This commitment was also demonstrated by the awarding of wildcards to Aloysa Margiela Atienza (Singapore), Molly Rålin (Sweden) and Moa Svedenskiold (Sweden). The latter impressed with an outstanding 9th place finish, thereby underlining her great potential.

More than just a golf tournament

Alongside sporting highlights, the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open also offered a varied supporting programme. The traditional Pro-Am tournaments on 12 August and 15 August gave VP Bank clients the opportunity to play a round alongside professional players and experience golf at first hand.

A highlight was the Swiss Golf Panel, which took place for the second time as part of the tournament. Moderated by Janine Geigele, Swiss wheelchair athlete and Laureus Ambassador Catherine Debrunner spoke about mental strength in sport. The subsequent panel discussion featured Olympic champion and Laureus Ambassador Chiara Leone, as well as up-and-coming Swiss golfer Vanessa Knecht.
