The essence of success - a focus on female careers

Reading time: 4 Min
Whether entrepreneur, artist, politician, fashion designer or gallery owner - in her new book "The Essence of Success", Jeannette Gräfin Beissel von Gymnich as initiator, editor and author, together with Christian Vogeler as author, explore the life stories of successful women.

How do they cope with crises, how do they reconcile family and career, how do they motivate their employees and themselves? Do they act differently to their male colleagues or are there parallels? 23 careers of successful women from North Rhine-Westphalia are portrayed in this entertaining book. The book was launched on 23 April 2024 at Satzvey Castle as part of a presentation and accompanied by a panel discussion. Mara Harvey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) VP Bank (Switzerland) Ltd and Head Region Europe also took part in the panel discussion.

Encouragers and role models

"Showing portraits of women in leadership positions was and is a real matter of my heart," says Jeannette Gräfin Beissel, describing her motivation for her books. "All of these women have taken on challenges and never given up. They are role models and sources of encouragement: ‘If she can do it’, is the message to the reader, ‘I can do it too’."

"We need to highlight women who push boundaries. Women who shine when starting new businesses. Women who support other women. Women who are empowering the next generation of girls to become leaders in their field", said Mara Harvey, who actively supported the realisation of The Essence of Success as a collaboration partner. As women also face particular challenges on their financial journey, the Female Finance Community of VP Bank offers customised advice and support tailored to women's individual needs and goals.

Shared vision: closing gender gaps

Mara Harvey puts it in a nutshell: "True success lies not only in achieving our goals, but also in helping others to achieve theirs." Both Mara Harvey and Countess von Gymnich are aware of the financial inequalities between women and men. Therefore, topics such as salary and pension differences, early childhood financial education and the strengthening of women's financial literacy were discussed intensively with the 100 participants at the event.
